Anne C. Steckel, 81, of Moline, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1307 17th Ave, Moline, IL 61265. Visitation will be held from 12pm to 1pm prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Anne was born March 29, 1942, in Davenport, IA, to Sherwood and Veronica (Kelly) Costigan. She married George Steckel on February 24, 1968, in East Moline. He preceded her in death on November 14, 2006. She was educated at the Villa de Chantelle in Rock Island and graduated from the Saint Catherine University in St. Paul MN with a bachelor's degree in library science.
Anne worked as a librarian for many years at both the Chicago Public Library and Moline Public Library. She later worked as a swimming instructor for the YWCA. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline where she served as a eucharist minister. She was also a member of the Outing Club.
She was a volunteer CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) in Scott County, advocating for the best interests of neglected children in the court system. She was in Junior Board Rock Island, where she served as chairman of the Mardi Gras Charity Ball.
Anne loved taking exotic trips and has visited all 7 continents. She most recently returned from a family trip to Ireland. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her subscription to the New York Times. She loved animals and enjoyed taking long walks with the dog. She enjoyed card games and was involved in several bridge clubs.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Anne V. (Brett Frazier) Steckel, John Steckel; grandchild, Veronica; and her cousin, Mary Ann Hofer. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Condolences may be left for the family on the tribute wall.
