Arnold Wilson Isenberger
Rock Island – Arnold Wilson Isenberger, 90, of Rock Island passed away Friday May 29th, 2015 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m.Tuesday June 2nd at Wheelan- Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island with visitation the hour before. Burial is at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to South Park Presbyterian Church, Friendship Manor, or Disabled American Veterans.
Arnold was born on November 5th, 1924 in his grandmother's home in Fort Madison, Iowa to Alfred James and Uva Arva Arnold Isenberger. He married E. Louise Hanshaw on July 26th 1947 in Moline. They had been married for 67 years when she passed last May 28th.
He left Fort Madison High School enlisting in the Army during World War II. He fought in the Pacific Theatre as an Infantry Soldier of the famed 158th Regimental Combat Team known as the Bushmasters, Rifle Company K. He participated in the liberation of the Philippine Islands and was later part of the U.S. Occupation Force in Japan. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star among other medals for his service.
Upon returning home he began a career in Security and Intelligence at the Rock Island Arsenal starting on the Guard Force and ending as Chief. He was a loving, giving and involved father and grandfather who enjoyed timepieces, hunting & fishing, country music, and westerns. He was a lifelong member of South Park Presbyterian Church in Rock Island.
He is survived by daughters, Karen (Ken) Meyer and Diane (Bob) Massey; grandchildren, Jon (Dr. Kelly) Behrends, Matt (Kris) Massey, Josh (Dr. Erin) Massey, Jen (Daniel) Zukerman and Becky (Nick) Dennis; five great-grandchildren; and his Sister Jeanele (Chris) Hanshaw. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lyle and Paul; and two grandchildren, Luke and Rachael Massey.
