Arthur J. "Jim" Niswander, 88, of Bettendorf, formerly of Milan, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Bettendorf Health Care Center.  Cremation rites have been accorded and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made in care of the family for a charity to be designated later.

Jim was born on July 19, 1928 in Moline, the son of Lester and Charlotte (Stacey) Niswander.  He married Elizabeth J. "Betty" Firth on December 29, 1967.  Betty died on March 23, 2014.  Jim retired as a General Stores Manager for the Department of Corrections following 30 years of service.

Jim enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues over the years.  He also enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.  In earlier years, he painted houses as a side job and was active in the Masonic Lodge.  More recently, Jim took great pride in hearing stories about his great grandchildren's sporting events.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jackie (John) Burns, Rock Island; granddaughters, Shanna Smith and Karly Burns; great grandchildren, Jalen, Cameron, Trey and Zayvion and nephews, Tim Clark and Chris Clark

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Kevin; his parents and sister, Mary Lou Clark
