February 22, 1923 – December 9, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Barger Muffley, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life at the age of 102 on December 9, 2025, at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor in Rock Island, Illinois. In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be honored. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Prior to the service, family and friends are invited to visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery on the Arsenal Island. Barbara was born on February 22, 1923, to George and Phyllis Moore Hall. She was united in marriage to James Barger in 1945, and together they raised three wonderful children. Following Jim's passing in 1962, Barbara found companionship and joy with Harry Muffley, whom she married in 1971. Their 48 years together were filled with travel, laughter, and cherished friendships until Harry's passing in 2020. Barbara dedicated 23 years to service in her role with the Federal Government, retiring in June of 1983. Her legacy will be carried on by her loving children: Linda (Don) Hildebrand of LaMoille, IL, Nancy (William) Hass of Rock Island, IL, and Brian (Kate Cahill) Barger of Palm Springs, CA. She will also be dearly remembered by five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Douglas and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, George and Phyllis Hall, as well as her two husbands, Jim Barger and Harry Muffley and her two brothers, Norman and Louis Hall. The family wishes to convey their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor and Heartland Hospice, whose care greatly enriched the final years of Barbara's life. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity or to Heartland Hospice at 1701 River Drive, Suite 104, Moline, Illinois 61265.
