Obituary

Barbara J. Evans, 89, of Coal Valley, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial is at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Avonlea Cottage or to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Barbara Jean Haney was born Oct. 5, 1926 in Aledo, a daughter of John H. and Emma M. Murdock Haney. She married Carlisle E. "Ki" Evans on Dec. 9, 1944 in Oakland, Calif. He died May 31, 2011. Barbara graduated from Aledo High School and in early years worked at Bituminous Casualty, Rock Island. She later worked as a secretary at Augustana College, Rock Island. She was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, and previously Central Presbyterian Church, both of Rock Island. Barbara was also a member of the Mercer County Genealogy Society. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening. Barbara considered herself a farm girl, she loved horses and was proud of her rural heritage. Her greatest love was for her family, enjoying every moment she was with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and yet missing her beloved husband and best friend, Ki. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Donald C. and Nancy Evans, Bettendorf and Kenneth R. and Karen Evans, Phoenix, Az.; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol K. Evans and Bill Wall, Seeley Lake, Mont., and Christine K. Evans and Dennis Peck, Geneseo; grandchildren (and spouses), Amanda Evans, Fullerton, Calif., Justin (Katie) Evans, Maricopa, Az., Matthew (Maggie) Evans, Lake Hawea, New Zealand, Jason Evans, Bettendorf, John (Emilia) Evans, Baton Rouge, La., Jessica Evans-Wall, Boston, Mass., Jared Evans, Rochester, Minn., Carlisle Evans Peck, Minneapolis, Minn. and Emma Evans-Peck, Geneseo; great grandchildren, Kain (Tatiana), Alyssa, Aiden, Tenley, Garrett, Sadie, Grace, Walter and Oliver; and great-great-grandchildren, Carter and Amelia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ki; and brother, John Wendell Haney.
