IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara J.
Stone
August 28, 1944 – February 15, 2016
Barbara Jo Stone, of Sherrard, began baking cakes, making tacos, and winning Sorry games in heaven on Monday, February 15, 2016. Born on August 28, 1944, Barbara was the youngest daughter of Joe and Fannie Mae Dorway.
Barbara or as the love of her life called her, Bobbie, married, Larry, or as she called him Jim, on March 28, 1963. They enjoyed a wonderful life together putting their kids, grandkids and neighborhood kids first on 22nd Street in Coyne Center and then finding the home of their dreams in Fyre Lake in Sherrard. She loved having kids from the neighborhood fill her home. She always had a hug to give, a smile to share, and wisdom to instill. It was known as "home" to many.
Barbara is the mother to Danette Stone, Tammy (Andy) Crippen, Austin Stone and her son from another mother, Tom Mahieu. Mom instilled many valuable life lessons such as don't be showing out because people are watching, don't be floppy, and to live life being kind to every person you see.
Barbara enjoyed loving, listening, hearing, talking, playing games with, seeing movies, having fashion shows, and cherishing her four grandchildren: Adam Birdsall, Chelsey, Claire and Corbin Crippen.
Her sisters, Fannie Louise Hand, North Carolina, and three deceased sisters Juanita, Opal, and Doris Montgomery were treasured by her. Now Louise can share loads of embarrassing childhood stories without fear of retaliation. Barb also treasured her special nieces Sherri Jackson and Tyrina Montgomery Hernandez.
If you saw Barbara then you saw Larry. Always together, partners in crime and laughter, their love is a true testiment to how they lived, raised their family, loved their friends and enjoyed their community. Many times you would see Barbara doned in purple and gold while wearing multiple buttons cheering on her granddaughters and grandson as Sherrard Tigers. Her cheers and claps always spread joy to those in the crowd. Her wallet was full of pictures of her grandkids and her two great grand babies.
Please join the family in saying farewell and celebrating her life. Visitation is planned for Friday, February 19, 2016 at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan from 3-7 pm. Memorial Services will be at the same location on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10 am with graveside being at Greenview Memorial in East Moline. Family and friends are also welcome to share a memory and lunch at Preemption United Methodist Church afterwards.
Barbara had an avid love of her community, family, and the "underdog". So, instead of flowers, please consider a donation to the memorial fund to her family to establish a scholarship in her name.
The family would like to thank her awesome nurses and the whole 4th floor oncology staff at Trinity who became family in these last 9 months.
