Barbara A. Zerull, 94, formerly of Rock Island, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Overlook Village. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am, Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Barbara was born on February 18, 1930, in Rock Island, a daughter of Joseph and Cecelia (Consamus) Gstettenbauer. She married Philip Zerull on July 10, 1948, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2002. Mrs. Zerull worked for Royal Neighbors of America, retiring in 1990. She also taught piano lessons in her home. Barbara was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary. Barbara had previously been the choir director and organist at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Barbara was very devoted to her family and her cat, "Purrcilla".
Survivors include her children, Stephen (Jean) Zerull, Dolli (Dean) Sanderson, Mike (Connie) Zerull, Cliff (Marcia) Zerull, Nancy (Allan) Nichols, and Jeff (Sally) Zerull; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip; infant son, Richard Zerull; sisters, Dorothy Colgan, Mildred Coulter; and brother, Dr. Joseph Gstettenbauer.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cabrera and all her caregivers, especially Jen and Maggie.
