Obituary

Bernard Hendricks Scott, 80, "Bernie" of Davenport, passed peacefully into Heaven surrounded by family at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, August 24, 2022.

Bernie was born November 14, 1941 to Ellen and Gregg Scott, in Dallas City, Illinois. He graduated in 1960, the last class of Davenport High School. Bernie was united in marriage August 19, 1967 to Patricia Greene (Rock Island). They had 2 children, Jennifer and Jeffrey.

Bernie began his career working part time at Tri-City Electric Company in 1959, where he worked for 45 years. After graduating from High School, he entered the apprenticeship program and began working in the field; from there he went into management as an Estimator and helped expand opportunities for new projects such as traffic signals and athletic fields. He taught apprenticeship classes for several years, where he felt he could best train future men and women in the profession he loved. Bernie continued his lifetime profession and retired from Tri-City Electric Company as a Vice President in 2005. He was a 60 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 145.

Bernie was a lifetime learner. He loved road trips and traveling, both at home and abroad, whether to a museum, a historical location, military or battle site, hydroelectric dam, ancient castle, cathedral or colosseum. He was intrigued by the design, construction and the equipment required to complete it.

Bernie was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and a die hard Yankees fan, even attending the last game ever to be played in Yankee Stadium. He loved collecting antiques, especially cars and clocks, though interestingly he never wore a watch. He loved country music, John Wayne movies, spending time with people, Whitey's ice cream and his cat Blackie. However, his greatest joy was his grand-children.

Bernie was preceded in death by his grand-daughters, Lily Grace Hanson and Kensley Scott; parents, Ellen and Gregg Scott, sister-in-law Kay Scott; and nephew, Russell Scott.

Those left to honor Bernie's memory are his wife Patty, and his children, Jennifer Hanson (Kevin) of Virginia and Jeffrey (Amy) Scott of Bettendorf. He was a proud Grandpa to Nathan, Luke and Jacob Hanson, and Kennedy, Kendall and Kamden Scott.

Bernie is survived by brothers, Bill (Kay), David (Kerry) and sisters, Judy (Dick) and Sue (Paul), as well as 10 nieces and nephews and 61 first cousins.
