Betty Jane Bunzey, 88, a long-time resident of Rock Island, Illinois passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport, Iowa.

Born December 31, 1927 in Wilmer, MN, Betty was the eldest daughter of George Brown and Stella Love Brown. She graduated from the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville, IL. She remained close to her teachers and classmates throughout her life. After graduation, she became a hairdresser by trade. She married Leo J. Kirk and had two daughters, Regina and Gerry. More than anything else, Betty enjoyed spending time with her children. She was active as a Girl Scout Leader and former PTA President. Leo passed away in 1981 after more than 30 years of marriage. Several years later, she married Milton Bunzey. During their retirement, they traveled and often prepared large meals for family gatherings.

Survivors include daughters Gerry Pohlmann (Jim) and Regina Armstrong (Frank), both of Davenport. Grandchildren Jason Doonan (Maeve) of Naperville, IL; Jeremy Doonan (Lauren) of Oswego, IL; Natalie Imborek (Josh) of Davenport, and Liz Adams Sosa (Mike) of Livingston, NJ. She is also survived by five great grandchildren who brought great joy to her later years. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and her foster son, Bruce Riggs.

Memorial services for Betty will be at 2pm, Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
