Betty A. Kramer, 97, of Rock Island died peacefully in hospice care on Monday, June 13 in her Friendship Manor apartment, Rock Island.
Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18 at South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Private inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials can be made to South Park Presbyterian Church or the Catfish Jazz Society Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island.
Betty was born October, 19, 1918 in Rock Island to Louis and Mamie Hall. She graduated from Rock island High School and attended the University of Illinois.
She married William "Bill" Kramer on June 15, 1940 at South Park Presbyterian Church.
They enjoyed being together, being with friends, making new friends, traveling and camping and helping others in various ways including being part of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Many of their activities were connected to Bill's love of music that included involvement with his band, the Bix Beiderbecke Music Festival, the Catfish Jazz Society and innumerable jam sessions.
Betty worked briefly at the Community Chest and selling real estate. But she was best known for her wonderful smile as "Miss Betty," the school secretary at Horace Mann Elementary School in Rock Island from 1960 to 1972.
She was a lifetime member of South Park Church and the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers.
Besides her parents and her beloved husband, a grandson, Kyle, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Chambers, Rock Island; a son Gary (Carol) of Rock Island and grandson Alex(Mary) Shorewood, Wisconsin; and granddaughter Anne(Tony) Ricchiuto, Indianapolis, IN.
She also leaves four adorable great-grandchildren, Keane, Henry, Shirley and Wade.
