Betty J. Swale, 84, of Taylor Ridge, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 from complications of Spinocerebellar ataxia, at her residence.

A Requiem Mass will be held 10:00 am on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Trinity Anglican Church, 1818 6th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 3 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Rock Island or to The National Ataxia Foundation.

Betty was born June 7, 1931 in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Sebastian and Dorothy (Hardyman) Nixon. She married Jack K. Swale on February 24, 1951 in Rock Island. Betty worked as a rural carrier for the Milan Post Office.

Betty was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Rock Island, where she was a longtime member of the Triangle Club, Altar Guild, and St. Elizabeth Guild. Betty enjoyed doing ceramics and spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored.

Betty is survived by her children, Teresa (Jerry) Moore, Andalusia, Gary Swale, Perry, OK, and Robert (Linda) Swale, Mokena, IL; cherished grandchildren, Annalise, Virginia, Claire, Jack, David, and Dan; and two great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Swale and her parents.
