Beverly Ann (Waters) Hartwig, 99, of Rock Island, Illinois, went home to Heaven on Monday, April 27, 2026.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2026, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island (Livestream link: https://vimeo.com/1187157845/0238c040fc). Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Beverly requests that everyone attending services wear their Chicago Cubs attire. Private burial for immediate family will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting with arrangements.
Beverly was born on July 19, 1926, at home in Moline, IL, the youngest of 6 children to Fred Evan Waters and Julia Marie (Lerch) Waters. She attended Sacred Heart School in Moline and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Rock Island in 1944.
On January 20, 1951, she married Donald Richard Hartwig at Sacred Heart Church in Moline. She worked for Catholic Social Services in Rock Island until the birth of her first child. They shared 70 years of marriage and raised 5 children. She was a founding and active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island. She served her Lord in many ways, including Eucharistic Ministry, Adult and Funeral Choir, Adoration Chapel, Legion of Mary Auxiliary, serving as an officer in Circles 1 and 4, and initiated a Children’s Liturgy of the Word Group. She was the President of the Home and School Group for St. Pius X School, and she was proud of her 5 children attending St. Pius X and Alleman Schools.
Outside of Church, Beverly was a Girl Scout Leader and helped with Boy Scouts, Secretary for the local AARP group and attended TOPS meetings and achieved Lifetime Status. Beverly enjoyed swimming at the RIFAC and YWCA, playing cards and reading books. The Hartwig family traveled all over the U.S. making memories. Beverly and Donald were able to spend 18 extended winters in Mesa, Arizona. She was a die-hard Chicago Cubs Fan and loved watching them win the World Series in 2016. She attended many spring training games in Arizona and was proud of her autographed ball from Harry Caray.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children: Kathleen Hartwig, Rock Island; Judith (John) Johnson, Rock Island; James (Martha) Hartwig, Robins, IA; Robert (Marcia) Hartwig, Princeton, IL; and Jack Hartwig, Sterling Heights, MI. 6 grandchildren: Misty (Michael) Sierens, Andrea (Patrick) Klopfenstein, Eric (Amy) Hartwig, Alan (Bridget) Hartwig, Ashley (Aaron) Carlin and Lindsay (Thomas) Monier and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in her death by her parents, husband Donald (December 31, 2021), her cat Kit Kat, and 5 siblings: David, Leo, Jack and Charles Waters, and Marilyn Lange.
