Beverly J. Nicholson, 84, of Rock Island, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 at her home.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. She will be buried with her late husband Del at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island or to Trinity Regional College of Nursing and Health Services, Rock Island.

Beverly Jean Vanderbilt was born Dec. 7, 1929 in Moline, a daughter of Earl and Irma Andrews Vanderbilt. She married Delbert F. Nicholson on March 31, 1951 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1997.

Beverly graduated from Rock Island High School in 1947 and from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, Moline in 1950. Beverly lead a life devoted to nursing and healthcare, she first worked as a surgical nurse at Lutheran Hospital and later served as a floor nurse. She then joined the former Americana Nursing Center, Moline, where she was charge nurse. Beverly later became the administrator of Comfort Harbor Nursing Home, Milan and then was charge nurse at the former Rock Island Convalescent Center. She did research for the Illinois Cancer Council and at the time of her retirement was safety nurse for Metrolink. Mrs. Nicholson was also instrumental in the planning of the Trinity Medical Center 7th Street Campus, Moline.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island, life member of the PTA, member/volunteer and past officer of the Lutheran/United/Trinity Hospital Auxiliaries and a member of the Rock Island Women's Club, Illinois Federation Women's Club, League of Women Voters and Trinity School of Nursing Alumni Association. Beverly was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, served as an election judge and was the regional representative for the Regional Organ Bank of Illinois. She enjoyed volunteering, playing cards and had a great love for her family and friends and was extremely proud of her grandsons and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, SuzAnne and Rudy Schindler, Davenport and Gayle and Wayne Each, Rock Island; grandsons, Justan Each and his wife, Rebecca, Davenport and Kyle Each, Rock Island; great-grandchildren, Kadin Each, Kenedee Each and Griffin Each; special "son", Jojo Concepcion, Manila, Philippines; and nephews, Todd Abramson, Geneva, Ill., and Jeffery Wiatt, Hillsdale. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Dellene "D.J." Nicholson; and sister, Marlene Abramson.
