IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bill Darwin
Nelson
July 6, 1967 – May 11, 2025
On May 11, 2025 at 4:10am, the King of the Road, "Cash," Bill Darwin Nelson, 57, Moline, IL took his final ride at UnityPoint-Trinity in Rock Island, surrounded by love. On May 10, Bill was honored with an Honor Walk—a powerful and selfless moment as he gave the gift of life through organ donation. His strength, even in his final moments, is just another example of the legacy he leaves behind. To honor his life, there will be a visitation from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM with a funeral service following at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
Bill was born on July 6, 1967 to William A. and Lauri (Eldridge) Nelson in Moline, IL. After graduating from Moline High School, he worked a few jobs before beginning his career as a fire sprinkler fitter. He started with his uncle's company, Traco Fire Sprinklers, and then for Tri-State Automatic Sprinkler where he has worked for over 25 years.
On September 8, 2007 Bill was united in marriage to Melissa (McCannon). The couple made their home in Moline and their house was always open, hosting numerous get-togethers for family and friends. Whenever they could, they loved going for rides on Bill's Harley.
Bill loved the open road, his motorcycle, and his infamous beard. He was the founder and president of the Steel Militia Motorcycle Club and was also an avid pool player who was on many leagues over the years. Bill was fearless, brave, courageous, and unapologetically himself. He lived life on his own terms, full throttle and with an open heart. He made friends with everyone and took care of those he loved.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Melissa; children, Joshua (Ashleigh) Peve and Colton (Taylor) McCannon; father, Bill; siblings, Randy (Heidi) Nelson, Mike (Melody) Craft, Jeff (Lori) Nelson, Robbie Sanderson, Julie (Chris) Nelson, and Lisa (Chris) Mason; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lauri Nelson.
