Billy D. Halley, 95, of Rock Island, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services for Mr. Halley will be 1 pm, on Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. The services will be live-streamed at https://www.wheelanpressly.com/live-stream. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Moline where military honors will be conducted by the Milan American Legion Post 569. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Billy was born on June 16, 1927 in the family farmhouse in Unionville, Missouri. He was the son of Henry and Grace (Arnaman) Halley. Billy married Bette Butkovich in Unionville. Later he married Shirley White in June of 1958 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death. Bill worked at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline for 31 years prior to his retirement and he also worked at Ben's Gourmet House, Rock Island during that time.
Billy was a hard worker all his life. In retirement, he owned and operated the River Queen bar and grill in Andalusia, and later was an auto parts delivery driver and security guard. Billy was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the Rock Island VFW Post 1303.
Bill enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with his family. He never met a stranger. He was generous and giving with his friends and family. He was always full of fun and smiles.
Survivors include his children, Mary Sue (Tom) Stewart, Ottumwa, and John Halley; grandchildren, Nathaniel Moorman, Benjamin Stewart, Matthew Stewart, Raven Hall, Melissa Hall and Rachel Halley; great grandchildren, Tracey Hall, Sylvia and Stella Moorman; and a special friend, Wanda Carnes, Milan.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; daughter, Tracey Hall; and siblings, Lawrence Halley, Ruth Colvin and Faye Stalcup.
