Billy E. McCombs, 73, Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at UPH-Trinity, Rock Island.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, with a visitation held one hour prior to service. Additional visitation will be held 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, November 26, 2021 at the funeral home. Family would prefer all visitors to wear face masks. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.
Billy was born on February 3, 1948 in Moline, the son of Edward and Lucille (Mosher) McCombs. He married Nancy Hendrickson on February 19, 1966 in Rock Island. He worked for John Deere Harvester in East Moline as an assembler, for 37 ½ years, retiring in June of 2004. Billy was a committeeman and union steward for the UAW Local #865, and a member of the Rock Island Bowling Association. Billy bowled from 1964 to 2016 and had multiple 300 games. He was inducted into the Rock Island / Milan Bowling Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2006, he started the Rock the House Bowling Tournament, to help offset funds for the bowling teams travel expenses. Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Billy is survived by his wife, Nancy McCombs; daughter, Shelly (Gary) Chapman; grandchildren, Aaron (Amanda) McCombs, Breyana (Colton) Chenoweth, and Courtney (Jeff) Moeller; great grandchildren, Ethan and Liam McCombs, Carter and Wyatt Chenoweth; and Harper and Baby Ellie (due in January) Moeller; brother, Rick (Ronnda) McCombs; and a host of extended family. He was preceded in death by parents; sons, Brian and Toby McCombs; siblings, Edward Jr., Eileen Stark, Dorothy Roessler, Nancy Gosney, and Sharon Gipe.
