Bobby P. Battin, 90, of Knoxville, IL, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday January 7, 2015 at Knox County Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held Noon, Monday January 12, 2015 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 11:00am to service time at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held in National Cemetery, Rock Island, with Military Honors by American Legions 569, 200 and VFW 1303.
Bobby was born on August 6, 1924 in Fairfield, IA, the son of Guy E. and Ruth E. (Parks) Battin. He married Ruth L. Polanchek on February 17, 1952 in Davenport, Iowa.
Mr. Battin was a World War II Marine Corp Veteran serving in the Solomon Islands and Marianas Islands Campaigns.
He had been employed at Deere and Co. for 25 years as a systems analyst.
Bobby was a member of the Rock Island VFW 1303. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, working in the yard, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He is survived by his children, Sharon Jackson, WA., Mary Merieras, Azores, April (Jack) Hoefer, Knoxville, IL, Drew (Terri) Battin, Leesburg, GA.; 4 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and sister, Betty Lekos.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings; Carl Battin, Helen Angstead and Jack Battin.
