Bridget "Betty" Gaffney, 87, of Rock Island, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 21, 2025, at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish (formerly St. Ambrose Parish), Milan. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Bridget was born on October 3, 1938, in Glasgow, Scotland, a daughter of Michael and Susan (Fernes) Knight. She married John F. Gaffney on June 5, 1965, in Jersey City, NJ, and he preceded her in death on August 16, 1998. Bridget retired as an inspector from Seaford Clothing Company in Rock Island.
Bridget immigrated to the United States from Scotland, and she later became a US citizen. She relied heavily on her faith and was a devout Catholic. She attended masses daily and was a very active member of the various ladies' groups at St. Ambrose in Milan in her younger years.
Those left to cherish Bridget's memory include her children, Janice (Matthew Neiderhiser) Rowland and John (Kolleen) Gaffney; grandchildren, John Jr. (Alex), Jessica, Marcus, Devon, Spencer, and Jordan; 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Patrick (Diane) Gaffney; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Shannon Stoll.
Bridget was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Stephen Gaffney; and all eleven of her siblings.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids and Above and Beyond Hospice for their wonderful care of Bridget.
