Bruce Abington, 52, precinct committeeman, Rock Island, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

Bruce was born June 6, 1971, in Moline to Donald and Bettylee (Roch) Abington. He graduated from Moline High School in 1989. Bruce married Aimee Mortier on January 14, 2000, in Rock Island. He taught at the Quad City Rock Academy. Bruce worked as a cook for several years, but currently worked for Express Scripts, helping the elderly navigate healthcare options.

Bruce accepted Christ as his Savior on March 15, 2023, was baptized, and became a faithful member of Destiny Baptist Church of Christ in Rock Island. He had recently begun working with the worship and audiovisual teams at church. Bruce was a member of Rock Island County Republicans and Ronald Reagan Breakfast Club. Bruce and Aimee loved their dog, Sparky, and cats, Capone, Taylor, Creeping Kid, and Trindolyn. His hobbies included writing and playing music, art, archery, and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Aimee; daughter, Arielle Thibodeaux; sons, Alex and Blaine Mowder; siblings, Sharon (David) Byrkit, Janet (Karter) Klabunde, Gregory (Wanda) Cobert, Craig (Jody) Cobert, Roxanne Cobert, Brian Cobert, Douglas Cobert and Donald Abington Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Robert Jr. and Jean Norton; grandfather-in-law, John T. Frels; Sister-in-law, Angela (Shawn) Schadle; brother-in-law, Matthew Norton; as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Destiny Baptist Church of Christ, 226 17th St. Rock Island, with visitation to be held at 10:00 am. Memorials may be left in care of Destiny Baptist Church of Christ. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.
