Bruce Dana Gilbert, 71, Rock Island, IL passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at ProMedica Senior Care in Davenport, IA. There will be a visitation from 9-10:00 AM with a funeral service following at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the family.

Bruce was born on April 21, 1951 to Willard and Gladys (Gray) Gilbert in Rock Island. He grew up in Rock Island where he graduated high school. Bruce served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 until 1976 when he was honorably discharged.

He worked at Caterpillar for several years before starting his career with Alcoa. He worked there as an assembler for almost 20 years until his retirement.

On December 8, 2003 Bruce was united in marriage to Linda Holifield. The couple made their home in Rock Island.

Bruce was an active member of the VFW. He enjoyed watching Nascar, fishing, camping, and loved to cook. He was a Mr. Fix It who did handiwork for a lot of people and businesses.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Dana (Christine) Gilbert, Kari (Keith) Walton, and Jeremy Gilbert; sister, Jackie (John) Leahy and brother, Terry (Carol) Gilbert; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Dorothy.
