Capitola "Cappie" Monson, 90, of Gower, Mo., formerly of Hamlet, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at the Gower Convalescent Center.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church, Hamlet. Burial is at the Hamlet Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Reynolds. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Capitola Tallcott was born Dec. 21, 1923 in Ursa, Ill., a daughter of Walter and Blanche Shaffer Tallcott. She married Alfred Monson on Mar. 31, 1943 in Hannibal, Mo. He died Dec. 14, 1993.

Cappie graduated from high school and attended the Western Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb, Ill., where she was a member of the women's basketball team. She taught several years in a one room school house.

She was a member of the Hamlet-Perryton Presbyterian Church and served many years as an election judge. Cappie enjoyed painting and loved family gatherings.

Survivors include her children, Larry Monson, Las Vegas, Nev., Bill (Robin) Monson, Davenport, Anna (Bob) Garrett, Freeport, Fla., and Lona (Lew) Webb, Platte City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maurine (Carl) Koenig of Sequin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Melvin Monson; sister, Harriette Robertson; and brother, Orrian Tallcott.
