Obituary

Carl D. Hodson, 84, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Amber Ridge Assisted Living, Moline. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made in care of the QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Carl was born in Milan, Ill. on January 13, 1931, a son of Benjamin L. and Irene O. Kimble Hodson. He married Mary Samuelson on January 25, 1964.

Carl played minor league baseball for the San Jose Red Sox before being drafted into the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean War.

Carl owned Corner Tap in Rock Island for 20 years. He sold the tavern in 1998. Carl also sold cars for 27 years for Eriksen Chevrolet in Milan.

Carl spent several years as a volunteer fireman for Blackhawk Fire Department in Milan. He was a past member of the Davenport Elks Lodge No. 298 and Milan Lions Club.

Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling. He also loved playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hodson, Rock Island; daughters (and spouses), Marla (Chris) Frost, Moline, Robyn (Trace) Bentley, St. Helena, Calif., and Carla (Michael) Schmidt, Mahomet, Ill.; two step-children; grandsons, Logan and Jake Frost and Ross Bentley; granddaughter, Jordan Bentley; eight other grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Roy Booton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-granddaughter, brother, Benjamin F. Hodson and sister, Eileen Booton.
