Carl H. "Carl Herman Michael Sebastian McKinley Smith Schmacht NineEagles Pedro Glutius Maximus Cavity" Schmacht, 89, of Cambridge, passed away Saturday September 21, 2024 at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation, East Moline.
A celebration of life gathering and potluck will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 12:00-3:00 PM. at the Milan American Legion. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 AM Friday in Rock Island National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
Carl was born on April 5, 1935 in Rock Island, the son of Charles Herman and Isabel (Horton) Schmacht. He married Sandra Glasgow on July 3, 1956 in Rock Island. He later married Jane Ann Gillispie. Carl was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. He served several years in the Army Reserves. His patriotism could be seen in every aspect of his life.
Mr. Schmacht had been self-employed building swimming pools and refinishing homes. He was known for the unique jewelry that he would make for friends and family. Carl was well known throughout the west end of Rock Island as always ready to share in a good time. In his professional life he was known for being able to figure out how to make and build about anything—like the third of an acre pool for the Davenport Country Club or the time he built a theme park west of Des Moines that included a volcano. He loved his family fiercely and if you were a friend it was for life.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Rock Island Moose. Carl enjoyed bowling, making jewelry and working around his home.
