Obituary

Carol A. Beane, 82, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, died on January 23, 2024 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. A funeral service will be at 10 am on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2324 18th Avenue, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island.  Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, The Bettendorf Family Museum, or a charity of your choice.

Carol was born on July 31, 1941, in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of John H. and Caroline Emma Geppert Allison.  She married C. Ernest Beane on September 10, 1961 at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Grinnell, Iowa.

Carol graduated from Fairview High School, Dayton, Ohio in 1959.  She then attended Earlham College, Richmond, Indiana, for three years before transferring to the University of Iowa where she earned her B.A. degree in Elementary Education in 1963.  She taught fourth grade at Coralville Central Elementary School until 1965.  She also taught at the University of Iowa Hospital School during the summer months.

In 1965, Carol and Ernie moved to Rock Island, Illinois. After raising their three children, Carol resumed her career in 1986 with Black Hawk Area Special Education District (BHASED), retiring in 1998 as administrator of the preschool screening program.

Carol was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Rock Island where she served as a Deacon.  She was also active in community service, including after school tutoring programs for children in the elementary grades.  She had been a member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club.

Carol enjoyed being a wife, a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother.  She also enjoyed traveling, including several train trips on the American Orient Express.  Her hobbies included reading, painting, needlework, and caring for her pets.  She also enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ernie, Bettendorf; children, Ernest E. (Kathi) Beane, Amherst, NH, Rebecca A. (Tony) Dzik, Rockford, IL and Tammy L. (Darin) Neal, Milan, IL; grandchildren, J. Patrick Beane, Samuel O. Beane, J. Connor Beane, Allison S. (Josh) Pedroza, Tony A. Dzik, Brett S. Kerno, Stephanie L. Kerno, Scott J. Kerno, and Andrew J. Kerno; great-grandson, Emilio Pedroza; and sister Judith E. Ray.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John H. Allison, Jr.

Carol's family would especially like to thank the staff of the memory support center at The Summit of Bettendorf for the joy they brought into her life since June of 2022.
