(Black) Coordes
December 20, 1945 – January 21, 2024
Carol C. Coordes, 78, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 21, 2024 at home surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer. The funeral service will be 10 am Friday, January 26, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Ridgeland Township Cemetery, Thawville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Believers Baptist Church for their mission fund, 9717 Route 150, Coal Valley, Illinois 61240.
Carol was born in Shrewsbury, England on December 20, 1945 to US Army Air Corps serviceman Orval R. Black and English war bride Olive J. Tudor Black.
Carol married Duane A. Coordes on June 24, 1967 in Watseka, Illinois.
Carol worked as an office administrator in her early years, first at the University of Illinois in the Scholarship and Director of Admissions offices. After they married, she and Duane moved to Falls Church, Virginia where she worked for the Washington College of Law and for the vice president and general counsel of American University.
After returning to Illinois, Carol worked for the Moline City Attorney until the birth of their daughter when she began her most challenging but rewarding work as a mother.
Carol was a charter member of Believers Baptist Church. She was the church secretary, a Sunday School teacher, and the pianist and organist.
Carol was an encourager and always took time to write thoughtful notes and show genuine interest in those around her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Duane Coordes; daughter and son-in-law, Carrie (Mac) Patrick, as well as many loving extended family members in the US and UK.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Philip Black.
