Obituary

Carol L. Gotthardt, 91, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday February 10, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2026 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Diabetes Foundation.

Carol was born June 25, 1934 in Moline, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Russell) Hull. She married Kenneth Gotthardt on June 27, 1952 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death in 2006.

Carol retired from the Rock Island Health Department in 1993 as a Nurse.

Carol was a member of St. Pius X Church, Rock Island. Carol was deeply committed to caring for those around her. She was an avid volunteer at her church and never missed a chance to celebrate those around her. She was consistently the life of all parties she attended - sharing her love of music and dancing (into her 90s) through the generations. Carol was a wicked card player and rarely missed an opportunity to win at any game she played. She was a mentor to many and her lessons and wisdom will live on in those lucky enough to share a coffee, a caramel pecan Sunday, or a burger with her.

Survivors include her children, Joe (Lori) Gotthardt, Rock Island and Suellen Simenec (Mike Zachodni), Plainfield, IN; daughter-in-law, Lisa Gotthardt, Rock Island; grandchildren, Lynzee Gotthardt, William Gotthardt and Tori Simenec and great grandchildren, Ivy, Wally, Eliza and baby due in July. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Thomas Gotthardt, son-in-law, D. Todd Simenec and siblings, Donna Grieve, Kathy Williams, James Hull, Sandy Kellett and Ruthie Miller.
