Carol L. Klavon, 69, of Milan, IL, passed away Sunday May 25, 2014 at Unity Point-Trinity, Rock Island.Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Northside Cemetery, Geneseo, IL. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, and additional visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Niabi Zoo or to the family for an educational fund for her grandchildren.
Carol was born January 5, 1945 in Geneseo, IL, a daughter of Carl M. and Mary F. (Yohe) Hanson. She graduated from Geneseo High School. Carol and Russell E. "Russ" Klavon were united in marriage on April 18, 1965 in Geneseo.
Carol was a homemaker and caregiver. She loved her family, and will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. One of her greatest joys was following her grandchildren's activities and accomplishments.
In earlier years, she was a nurse's assistant at Lutheran Hospital and later worked at Holt Distributing Co., in Denver, CO, for a time.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island. She enjoyed feeding the Giraffe's at Niabi Zoo, flower gardening and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Russell Klavon, Milan; children, Kevin Klavon, Valdosta, GA, and Kelly Cortez, and her husband Andy, Moline; grandchildren, Colton, Brittany, Austin, and Kevin Klavon, Jill Elder, and Kylie, Libby, and A.J. Cortez; step grandchildren, Amber Hamilton, Jamie Easton, and Julius Elder; sisters and brothers (and spouses), Sharon Hoaglund, East Moline, Raymond (Kris) Hanson, Osco, IL, and Mary Christine (Larry) Ward, Geneseo; mother-in-law, Sylvia Simms, Milan, brothers and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Anderson, East Moline, Dennis (Ann) Klavon, Monett, MO, Carolyn (Dan) Werner, currently in Waterloo, IA, Raymond (Annette) Klavon, Geneseo, and Jane (Jack) Copeland, Moline; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Kyle Klavon, two nephews, Marcus and John; her sister-in-law, Darla Stidham, and brother-in-law, Charles Hoaglund.
