Obituary

Catherine "Cat" Elizabeth Herzog, 52, Moline, IL passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022 at UnityPoint-Trinity, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4-6 PM with a Parastas service at 6 PM on Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. The burial rite will be at 10 AM on Friday, at the Byzantine Catholic Outreach in Muscatine, IA. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Muscatine. Memorials preferred to the family.

She was born on November 22, 1969 in California where she was adopted by Franklin and Janet (Trowbridge) Reed. After graduating high school, Cat served briefly in the Coast Guard before being medically discharged. She later moved to Indiana, where she met her husband, Todd Herzog. They were married on October 7, 1995 in Louisville, Kentucky. The couple then lived in Dubuque and Waterloo, IA before moving to Moline in 2014.

Cat was a homemaker who homeschooled her five children. She loved to write, whether it was blogs or her journal. She had one novel published and was working on others. She was an active member of the Byzantine Catholic Outreach in Muscatine. Prior to her death, Cat was a gluten-free baker, about to open her own bakery in Davenport, Iowa. Her greatest wish was to give others the chance to live well with delicious gluten-free baked goods.

For those who knew her, she had a smile that lit up both the room and the soul; she always had a kind word. She was also described as a mother to all, often offering her home and resources to the friends of her children. She attended the births of all of her grandchildren and was beloved by them, as well.

She is survived by her husband, Todd; mother, Janet Reed; children, Meg Reed, Jackson (Leon) Blau, Elizabeth "Hope" (Joe) Quisenberry, Peter Herzog and Tory Herzog; grandchildren, Alexander, Leonardo, and Oliver Reed; and Georgia, Samuel, Elaine Catherine Quisenberry; and siblings, William Adams, Christina Adams, and Naomi Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her father.
