Obituary

Cathryn "Trina" (Duncan) Finn, 73, of Rock Island passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 20th at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Monday at church. Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, La Salle, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan or a charity of your choice. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting the family.

Trina was born on August 15, 1949 in La Salle, Illinois, a daughter of Lawrence and Margaret (Brehm) Duncan. She graduated from La Salle-Peru High School in 1967 and went on to graduate from Illinois Valley Community College in 1969 and Southern Illinois University in 1971. She married Lynn Deaner in 1970 and was later divorced.

Cathryn (Kate) taught for a brief time at LP High School and then became an advertising account executive at the News Tribune. In 1986, she moved to Princeton with her family and worked at Perry Memorial Hospital in administration.

On June 9, 2000, she married her best friend Jay T. Finn and they moved to the Rock Island/Milan area. She returned to her career in education as a Title One Tutor at United Township High School in East Moline and she taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at Black Hawk College until her retirement. Teaching ESL was her favorite job and it brought her great joy, making friends from around the world. She lived her life to the fullest with love, humor, family, friends, and faith.

Those left to cherish Cathryn's memory include her husband, Jay; daughters, Nicole (Everett Schulze) Deaner and Margaret (Meg'n) Deaner of Colorado; grandson, Garrett Schulze; bonus grandchildren, Jessica, Carissa, and Ashlee Schulze of Colorado; sister, Laurie Moss of Peru; brother, James (Michele) Duncan of Florida; sister in law, Kathleen (Jim) Hyson of La Salle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law, Jack Moss.
