Cecily D. Miles, 78, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at her residence.
A private graveside service will be held at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Riverbend Food Pantry in Cecily's memory.
Cecily was born on October 9, 1942, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Gerald and Cecile (Crawford) Detrick. Cecily graduated from Rock Island High School in 1960. She married Donald Miles on August 30, 1963, in Rock Island. Cecily's career path was built around helping others, a concept that was very important to her and which she instilled in her daughters. She received her first Bachelor's Degree in French and History from Augustana College in 1964, and then taught Art at Edison Junior High School and French and Social Studies in the Moline School District. Cecily later decided to become a nurse and earned her RN degree from Blackhawk College, Rock Island, and later her Bachelor's in Nursing Degree from the University of Illinois – Chicago Campus. She worked as a nurse in the Pediatric, OB, and Neonatal Departments at Franciscan Hospital. After nursing for many years she became an instructor at Blackhawk College in their Nursing Program. Cecily also helped create and teach an Alternative Education Program for teen parents, to help young parents continue their education.
Cecily enjoyed gardening, sewing, and creating artistic designs to decorate her home. She loved traveling, spending time with her family, and spoiling her cats.
Cecily is survived by her husband, Donald Miles, Milan; daughters, Dawn D.M. (Ken) Newman, Maryland Heights, MO, and Beth Andrea (Jeremy Sazaki) Miles, Sacramento, CA; and grandson, Griffith Miles Newman. She was preceded in death by her parents.
