Charlene E. (Boquet) Criswell, 95, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, May 18th, 2021 at Amber Ridge Memory Care in Moline. Services for Charlene will be 12 pm, Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to the Church of Peace United Church of Christ, Rock Island. (1114 – 12th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201) this is the Church Charlene and her family were avid members when they moved to the Quad Cities in 1939.
Charlene was born on July 12, 1925 in Kirksville, Missouri, a daughter of Leo and Alma Boquet. Charlene graduated from Rock Island High School in 1943, she went to work for International Harvester after graduation. Charlene enlisted in the Waves in 1945 and received her training at the Naval School in New York, NY. She entered Whitworth College, WA after serving in the Waves. Charlene married Kenneth Criswell on October 25th, 1957. Charlene worked at the Command Center at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1964-1985. Charlene went to the Presbyterian Church in Davenport and was very active. Charlene also delivered Meals on Wheels in Davenport. Charlene volunteered for the Bettendorf Museum and won several awards. Charlene went to South Park Presbyterian Church of Rock Island and was very active. Charlene was known as Grandma when walking on 30th street in Rock Island with her dog, Sofie, for many years and met and talked with so many friends along these wonderful walks come rain or sunshine.
The family of Charlene Criswell would like to thank all the staff at Amber Ridge Memory Care for all their love and support.
Survivors include her sister, Suzanne Crawford, Rock Island and 9 nephews. Charlene was like a second mother to all her nephews.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; sisters, Adrianne Johnson and Jacqueline Cohen.
