Obituary

Charles H. Bahrs Jr., 84, of Rock Island, died Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his home.  A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 16, at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorials may be made in care of the American Cancer Society.

Charles was born in Elkhorn, Nebraska on May 6, 1933, a son of Charles H. Sr. and Sophie Ohm Bahrs.  He married Mary Burt in Nebraska with whom he had 6 children.  He later married Joyce Langel in the Quad Cities in 1973 with whom he had a son.

Charles was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

He was the owner/operator of his own semi-truck most of his life and drove for many different companies across the U.S.

Charles loved his job and dirt track racing here locally with his family, especially watching his son, Jason; visiting with grandkids was also a favorite of his, along with going to the casinos and having coffee with his friends and telling old stories.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Jason Bahrs and his fiancé, Marissa Arnold, Colona, Ill., Charles M. Bahrs, Karen Bahrs, Ronald Bahrs, Doug Bahrs and Sandy Bahrs, all of Nebraska and Linda (Jim) Blevins, North Carolina; a host of grand and great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Lee, Reno, Nevada; and special friend, Tina Ruge.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
