Charles “Happy” Hendrix, 90, of Illinois City, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at UnityPoint Health Trinity, Muscatine.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be left in care of Andalusia Community Baptist Church or Providence Baptist Church, Illinois City.

Happy was born on March 4, 1936, in Fouke, Arkansas, a son of Charles and Irene Hendrix. He married Nina Saunders on December 24, 1969 and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2013. Happy worked for Nicholas Foundry in Rock Island for several years before starting his own business, Hendrix Mobile Home Service.

Charles was very dedicated to his lord and savior and he often spent his Sundays traveling and filling in as a preacher. He spent many Sundays at both Andalusia Community Baptist Church and Providence Baptist Church in Illinois City.

Happy’s hobbies included fixing things, tinkering, and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Barbara J. (Stuart) Shuck, Deborah Jo Hendrix, and Walter L. (Debra) Wise; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, June Kinney; and brother, Dean Hendrix.

Happy was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Raymond F. Girt Jr.; and siblings, David Hendrix, Avis Whittington, and Dale Hendrix.
