Charles Lane Hawkins, 85, of Rock Island, died Monday, February 16, 2015 at home.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Charles was born March 14, 1929 in Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., a son of William Fred and Alice Zolema Roberts Hawkins. He married Dorothy Jean Wright on March 19, 1950 in Red Boiling Springs. Charles was an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church.
Charles worked at John Deere Cylinder, Moline, for 30 years and retired in 1987. He enjoyed fishing with his sons at Fox's Lodge in Toledo Bend, Texas and golfing.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Jean; children, Bryan (Teresa) Hawkins, Moline, Russell Kim (Susan) Hawkins, Milan, and Jill (Bruce) Bryan, Bolingbrook, Ill.; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Carlton, Brentwood, Tenn.; plus several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wayman, Clarence and Tommy.
A special "thank you" to the staff members at Dr. Constantinou's office and Heartland Hospice who provided him with "gentle care", compassion and comfort.
