Charles W. Hughes passed away on February 1, 2016 at the age 69. Born in Greenville, KY to Clifton J. & Christine Hughes. Charlie attended The University of Tennessee in Martin and The University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a Juris Doctorate degree passing the bar in 1971. He married Daniele (Dani) Martin in 1973 in Rock Island, IL. Charlie retired as a Major in the U.S. Army in 1991 after patriotically serving his country for over 20 years. Charlie retired from CSULB in 2009 after 17 years as Procurement Director. He was a Scout Master for Troop 147 from 1987-1992, District Commissioner for El Capitan 1988-1990 and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1989.
Charlie enjoyed gardening, swimming, his cats, and being with family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, son Charles (Billy), daughter Jennifer Hiscock and her husband Jason and 3 grandchildren, and sister. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 09, 2016 from 4-8PM at Dimond & Shannon Mortuary, Garden Grove. Burial will be at Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL on Friday February 19, 2015 at 1pm, with full military honors. Those wishing to attend should meet at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island at 12:30 Friday.
