Charles Larry Payton, 81 Rock Island, IL passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at UnityPoint-Trinity Health, Rock Island. There will be a visitation from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM with a funeral service following at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Entombment in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Rock Island. Memorials preferred to the family.

Chuck was born on August 28, 1941 in Pleasanton, IA. His mother, Billie (Henry) Payton raised him in Lyndon, IL where he graduated high school. He then worked on farm and at a variety of jobs before starting his career with Caterpillar where he was employed for 18 years until his retirement. After retiring, he worked as a blackjack dealer at Jumer's Casino.

On April 9, 1966, Chuck was united in marriage to Joan Fox in Galesburg, IL. The couple made their home in Rock Island where they raised their son.

Chuck was an avid bowler who, in his younger years, played on leagues and traveled for tournaments. He also really liked spending time at the casino, especially playing craps and slots.

He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Joan; grandson, Michael (Christa) Payton; great-grandchildren, Michael, Elyse, Elizabeth and Alexis Payton; daughter-in-law, Ruby Payton; special niece, Kim Fifer; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; infant grandsons, Christopher Edward, Tony Lee, and Christopher Michael Payton; brothers, Bob and Ronald Payton.
