Charles "Chuck" G. Maki, 84, of Rock Island passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at home surrounded by family.

Cremation rites have been accorded and no services are to be held. Memorials can be made in care of Toys for Tots or the Quad City Animal Welfare Center. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Chuck was born on August 7, 1938 in Marquette, Michigan, a son of George A. and Laura W. (Kujansuu) Maki. He graduated from Orion Community Unit High School in 1956. Chuck went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960. After the service, he worked for the United States Postal Service from 1960-1962. Later, Chuck went on to get his BA in Speech Language Pathology from Augustana College in 1965 and his masters from Western Illinois University in 1972. He began his 30 year long career as a Speech Language Pathologist with the Clinton County Schools (AEA 9) in 1966.

Chuck was united in marriage to the love of his life, D. Michele Bohatka and they had two children together, Denise and John. He enjoyed stamp collecting, postcard collecting, traveling, Hercule Poirot videos, and spending time with family.

Those left to cherish Chuck's memory include his wife, Michele "Mikki" Maki, Rock Island; children, Denise (Bill) Byers, Andalusia and John Maki, Rock Island; grandson, Ryan Fussell Lihue, Hawaii; sister, Barbara Carter; and sisters in law, Arline (James) Crowley, Princeton, IL and Jeanie Moses, Milan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Maki and Laura Kelly.
