Cheryl was born to Carl L. and K. Pauline (Johnson) Chard in April 1940. She was raised in Matherville, Illinois until her marriage to Wayne E. Coyne in November 1959. She became a farm wife and lived the remainder of her life on the family farm in Milan, IL.
She graduated from Sherrard High School and was a member of the Aledo Assembly of Rainbow Girls moving through the Chairs until she became Worthy Advisor.
Cheryl supported Wayne: as a “Hired Hand” on the farm, as a secretary for one of Wayne’s bowling leagues, as well as when he managed a women’s softball team and built a softball diamond in a corn field. She returned to work when her children were all in school, becoming a Legal Secretary and remained one for 31 years.
Wayne and Cheryl shared 63 years of marriage before he passed in July 2023. The family spent time traveling throughout the United States seeing relatives and gaining exposure to the expanse of country and different cultures that the US represents. Cheryl and her daughters were able to travel to England and France and Wayne and Cheryl were able to travel to Sweden to see relatives and spend time visiting their Foreign Exchange student Ann at her family home. They devoted many times throughout their lives dancing in many locations in Western Illinois and Eastern Iowa. They even followed one of their favorite bands on a cruise.
The roles she loved most were Mom, Grandma and “GiGi” to her Great and Great-Great Grandchildren.
Her family was the light of her life. She leaves behind her children: Connie Coyne-Gowdy (Chris Gowdy), Moline, IL, Karri Coyne (Shawn Voisine), Davenport, IA, Curt Coyne (Denise), Milan, IL and Swedish Foreign Exchange Student Ann Lindell, Berlin, Germany. Grandchildren: Kelsey Coyne, Milan, IL, Dayton Coyne (Nicole), Milan, IL and Tyler Gowdy, Moline, IL. Bonus Great-grandchildren: Kara Licht (Peyton Locke), Milan, IL. Additional survivors are Sister, Lynn McMeekan, Viola IL, Sister-in-law Rhonda Chard, Rock Island IL, Brothers, Daryl Chard, Sherrard, IL and Leonard Chard (Jean), Milan, IL and many nieces and nephews.
