Cheryl Prather, 75, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, August 15, 2022. Services are 10am Friday, August 19, 2022, at Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 -7pm Thursday, August 18th at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Dillon International (www.dillonadopt.com), Two Rivers United Methodist Church, or charity of choice.
Cheryl was born October 30, 1946, in Dixon, Illinois to Glenn and Madeline (French) Adams. Growing up she participated in 4-H, accumulating many trophies and awards for showing her club calves.
She graduated from Polo High School in 1964 and later received her secretarial certificate in 1965 from the American Institute of Commerce. Cheryl worked as a legal secretary at Van Der Kamp and Crampton, P.C. for many years and eventually retired from Pappas, O'Connor, Fildes, P.C. in 2012.
Cheryl married James Prather on April 28, 1973. They enjoyed traveling to Rotary International conventions, where they especially enjoyed a trip to Seoul, South Korea in 2016 where they visited their children's adoption agency. James preceded her in death on May 27, 2017.
Cheryl was a member of Two Rivers United Methodist Church, National Secretaries Association, and OURS through Adoption. She enjoyed volunteering at church, singing in the choir, antique shopping, attending Rotary functions, reconnecting with family and friends at reunions, gardening, and baking. She also deeply loved her pets, Simba and Lexi.
Surviving are her daughters, Christa (Brian) Lutz, Gilbert, AZ, Jara (Richard) Chen, Cheshire, CT; brother, David (Renee) Adams, Washington, IL; grandchildren, Makenzie and Brileigh Lutz, and Maddox Chen; sister-in-law, Barbara Prather, Bettendorf; nieces, Tara Adams, Apex, NC, and Debbie (Chad) Paulsen, Bettendorf; nephews, Troy Adams, Chicago, and Joseph Cox, Des Moines; great-niece, Taylor Ward, Moline.
