Christopher Paul Galusha, 28, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island. So others may live, Chris was an organ and tissue donor.A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Preemption Cemetery. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a family rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Camp Quality Illinois, Boy Scouts of America, Genesius Guild/Genesius Theatre Foundation, or Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network.
Christopher was born May 30, 1985 in Davenport, the son of John and Nancy (Hooker) Galusha.
He graduated from Rock Island High School in 2004 and received his associates degree from Black Hawk College, Moline in 2008. Chris graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a bachelor's degree in fine arts and a minor in art history. While at SIU Edwardsville, Chris received the Ina Peabody Sledge Award from the Friends of Lovejoy Library, was inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success and three times was awarded the Wagner Association of Metalsmiths Award. He was currently working alongside his grandfather, Kenneth Galusha at Ken-Mar, where he was a book craftsman.
Chris used his talent in art to become proficient in metalsmithing. A piece of his art will be on display at the Memphis Metals Museum May 31, 2014 – September 7, 2014. He was an Eagle Scout, Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow Konepaka Ketiwa Lodge 38 (Scouting service organization) and an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 243. Chris also volunteered at Camp Quality Illinois, a camp for children with cancer. He enjoyed rock climbing, blacksmithing, book binding, and taking part in performances with the Genesius Guild in Rock Island.
Survivors include his parents, John and Nancy, of Rock Island; grandparents, Kenneth and Mary Galusha, Rock Island; aunts and uncles, Paula (Chris) Faulkner, Fort Madison, Iowa, Steve Galusha, Rock Island, Thomas Galusha, Moline, Suzanne (Todd) Madden, Moline, and Mark Galusha, Rock Island; numerous cousins; other extended family members and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Russell and Wanda Hooker.
