Christopher R. Shrake, 45, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island.

Chris was born on March 12, 1980, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Randy S. and Pamela S. (Randall) Shrake. In his youth, he was active as a Tiger Cub and Cub Scout and enjoyed participating in sports while attending Immanuel Lutheran School. Chris graduated from Rockridge High School with the Class of 1998, where he was dedicated to his academic studies.

Chris brought so much quiet joy and steady love into everyone's life. He was thrilled when he finally found work that truly challenged and excited him, something that matched his interests and let him thrive every day. In the evenings, he'd unwind with his favorite Minecraft YouTube creators, losing himself in their builds and adventures.

Chris loved nothing more than binge-watching TV series, curled up and lost in the stories. He had a special place in his heart for the classic Doctor Who and Star Trek world; he adored the original series and movies and made it a point to watch Star Trek: The Next Generation from the very first episode to the last. He would marvel at SpaceX launches, in awe of the rockets and dreaming about the stars. About a year ago, Chris and his fiancée, Rachel, started a new hobby together: card shows, where they would spend happy hours browsing, trading stories, and enjoying the thrill of the hunt.

Chris was endlessly fascinated by how the body works; he poured time into researching vitamins, nutrients, and their effects, always eager to learn more. He loved tinkering with computers and technology, figuring out how things ticked, and he patiently humored his fiancée, Rachel, with Pokémon Go from the very beginning of the game, joining her on walks and catches even when it wasn't his favorite thing.

Chris opened his heart fully to Rachel's adult son, Max; not his by blood, but treated as his own with guidance, support, and unwavering care. Their sweet dog Cricket shared seven wonderful years with the family, and Chris and Rachel both poured love into him. The weekend morning park dates with Cricket were some of the happiest times, simple, sunny, and full of tail wags.

When Chris and Rachel felt a little bougie, they would treat themselves to sushi, savoring each bite and each other's company. Chris followed world politics closely, with strong, thoughtful views, but he had the gentlest side too. He supported Rachel's education pursuits patiently no matter how frustrated or overwhelmed she got, always there with encouragement and loyalty to the life they built together. He often reminisced fondly about his childhood, especially his deep admiration and love for his father and grandfather, and the cherished family fudge recipe lost to time.

Chris, my love, may you find all those dear ones waiting in heaven: your father, your grandfather, and so many more. Leave behind the mortal health struggles and enjoy all the fudge your heart desires. Until we meet again, you carry my love with you always.

Those left to honor Chris' memory include his fiancée, Rachel Hart; mother, Pamela Shrake; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Sydney Shrake; stepson, Max Hart; uncles, Terry (Gwen) Shrake, and John Britton; and cousins, Andy (Annmarie) Shrake, Leslie Thompson, Jason (Anna) Britton, James (Amanda) Britton, Kathryn Kress, Sarah (Jason) Wendland-Kester, Kimberly (Lisa) Wendland, and Adam Wendland.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, Randy Shrake; and aunts, Karen Britton and Sherry Shrake.
