Clair L. Thompson, 88, of Edgington, passed away Monday December 12, 2016 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 801 W. Edgington St., Reynolds, IL. Burial, with military honors presented by the Reynolds American Legion, will be at Edgington Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Clair was born on August 14, 1928 in Mercer County, a son of Earl and Sylvia (Anderson) Thompson. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1946.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Clair was married to Lillie Menes for a time. He later married Marilyn Fuhr Shaffer on December 13, 2004 in Edgington.

Clair was  a lifetime farmer and also a tractor mechanic. In earlier years he also owned and operated Clair's Shell Service and then worked at Lafever & Duncan, Aledo, for many years.

He enjoyed working on antique tractors, automobiles, and going to area car shows in his "T Bucket". He also enjoyed dancing, polka music, and feeding the birds and squirrels.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn, of Edgington; sons (and spouses), Dan (Cindy) Thompson, Aledo, Dave (Elaine) Thompson, Aledo, Jeff Thompson, Florida, Larry Thompson, Aledo, and Tim (Jennifer) Thompson, Aledo; six stepchildren and spouses; twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Verla Thompson, Aledo, and Eleanor " Curly" McAtee, Metropolis, IL; brother, Earl "Bud" Thompson, Aledo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family.

Clair was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Thompson; and sisters, Wanda Fausett and Kathleen Leary.
