Clara Delle Thompson, 90, of Rock Island, died Thursday, March 2, 2023 at home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be 10 am Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Monday, March 6, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Burial will take place at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made in care of 15th Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island or the Rock Island Community Foundation.
Clara Delle was born in Milburn, NE on March 3, 1932, a daughter of Lewis George and Mary Helen Daily Butcher. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1949.
Clara Delle married Donald LaVerne Thompson on May 20, 1951 and together they had three children. They later divorced.
Clara Delle was a court reporter for 44 years and 10 months for the State of Illinois, retiring at age 81. She was a member of 15th Avenue Christian Church and very active and involved with Quad City Interfaith, Quad City Arts, the Botanical Center, Putnam Museum and Figge Art Museum. Overall, Clara Delle enjoyed living life and always brought a huge smile with her anywhere she went.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Michael Thompson, Moline, Joel (Brenda) Thompson, Rock Island and Donella (Jerome) Anderson, Macomb, IL; grandchildren, Matthew and Ross Thompson, Isaac and Henry Thompson, Greta (Joe) Teno and Emma, Lara and Aaron Anderson; great-grandchildren, Brielle Thompson and Oliver Teno; sisters, Alice Lyons and Mable Carlson, both of Moline; and sister-in-law, Diane Butcher, Moline.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Emerson and Leon Butcher and brothers-in-law, Ron Lyons and Roger Carlson.
