Clyde D. Sedam, 96, of Andalusia, passed away peacefully at his home,
surrounded by family on Wednesday October 5, 2016.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Community Baptist Church,
Andalusia. Burial, with military honors presented by Reynolds American
Legion Post 1166, will be at Andalusia Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory,
201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, IL. Memorials may be made to Community Baptist
Church, Andalusia.
Clyde was born April 30, 1920 in Buffalo, IA, a son of C. Lester and
Emma Verstring Sedam. He married Lola L. " Peggy" Garvey on November 1,
1947 in Rock Island. Clyde was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, proudly
serving his country from January 1942 to October 1945. He was the
last living member of "Spearhead" 3rd Armored Division, Company A.
He landed on Normandy Beach and participated in the European Theatre.
Clyde ('Blondie') was a POW and was liberated by American Troops.
He was a recipient of the Bronze Medal.
Clyde and Lola moved to Andalusia in 1951 to raise their family.
Clyde was employed at the I.H. Farmall Works, Rock Island for over 33
years. He retired in 1980. He farmed the family farm from 1971 to 1994.
In the later years, he farmed with his brother Clark. Clyde was an
Andalusia Volunteer Fireman and served as Assistant Chief. In addition,
Clyde served as the Road Commissioner for Andalusia Township.
He was a member of Community Baptist Church, Andalusia and the
Reynolds American Legion Post 1166. He served as Scoutmaster for Troop
220 BSA. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, drafting house plans, and
spending time with family and friends. He was often referred to as
"Mr. Clyde" and everyone knew he was always right.
Surviving are his wife, Lola "Peggy", of Andalusia; children (and
spouses), Brenda (Ted) Billingsley, Geneseo, Donald (Kathy) Sedam,
Andalusia, and Bonnie Balmer, Andalusia; seven grandchildren; thirteen
great-grandchildren; siblings, Caroline (Jake) Gluba, Aledo, Clark
(Shirley) Sedam, New Boston, and Chester Sedam, New Boston; brother-in-law, Roy Nebiker, New Boston; and many
nieces, nephews, and other family.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daryl Sedam;
son-in-law, John Balmer; sister, Lucille Nebiker; and sister-in-law,
Ressa Mae Sedam.
