Obituary

Connie M Avey, 77, of Rock Island, passed away, Friday, April 24, 2026. Born on November 25, 1948, in Pheonix, AZ, Connie was the beloved daughter of Harold and Ardith (Martin) Avey.

Connie dedicated her life to education and service. After graduating from Rockford East High School in 1966, she pursued her passion for learning, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education and sociology from Western Illinois University. Furthering her education, she attended the University of Iowa, expanding her knowledge in social work and business.

Connie found her professional home at Royal Neighbors of America, where she worked for 23 and a half years, leaving an indelible mark through her commitment to training and community. Beyond her role in the insurance industry, Connie was actively involved in numerous organizations that reflected her deep commitment to uplifting those around her. She was a very active member at St John’s Lutheran Church in Rock Island. Connie served as a president and leader in the Church Women United and was awarded as the Church Women United Valiant Women in 2025. She was also a proud member of PEO Chapter BK, AAUW, WELCA, and the American Women Business Association.

In her leisure hours, Connie cherished time spent on needlework, solving crossword puzzles, and attending plays and concerts, reflecting her vibrant spirit and love for creativity.

Connie leaves behind a loving family who will deeply miss her. She is survived by her sister, Susan (Joseph) Calcione; her brother-in-law, John Searle; her beloved niece, Andrea (Chris Carico) Woldman; her cherished nephews, Nicholas (Kelli) Calcione, Tyler Searle, Adam (Sheri) Searle; as well as great nephews, Gavin Calcione, Blake Calcione, Grant Woldman, Myles Woldman, Matthew Searle; and great niece, Keelan Carico. Connie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jacqueline.

The family will hold a service to honor Connie’s life on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 4501 7th Ave, Rock Island, IL 61201. Visitation will be conducted one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, allowing family and friends the opportunity to share their love and memories. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Connie’s memory. The family will have a private burial at Sunset Memorial Garden in Rockford, IL, honoring Connie's wishes.

In this time of grief, we join together in celebrating a life well-lived, appreciating Connie’s generous spirit, dedication to her Faith, and the cherished memories she leaves behind.
