IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Curtis L
Trevor
June 19, 1928 – June 22, 2024
Curtis L. Trevor, 96, of Moline, passed away on Saturday, June 22, at Overlook Village. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is handling arrangements.
Curt was born in Moline on June 19, 1928, to Glenn and Leona Trevor. After serving in the U.S. Army in 1946-48, including a stint in Korea, Curt graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island and the University of Michigan Law School. He married Shirley Ann Youngert on September 6, 1952, in Rock Island. She married him because she knew he could always make her laugh, and for 62 years he always did.
Curt practiced law in Moline for over 60 years, in private practice with his father Glenn, and as Assistant State's Attorney, Assistant Attorney General, Moline City Attorney (twice), and a solo practitioner. He also served on the boards of Moline Public Hospital and of St. John's Lutheran in Rock Island, where he was a long-time member.
He was an enthusiastic, lifelong athlete. Like many, he continued to golf, run, and play tennis well into his later years. Like very few, he pole-vaulted competitively into his early 70s and lived to tell the tale.
He was a dedicated guardian of English grammar, eyes twinkling as he playfully reminded his young sons in the 1960s, and his nurses at Overlook in the 2020s, that double negatives were wrong and "ain't ain't a word."
Mostly, though, he was a funny, gentle, and loving friend, son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and husband for almost a century. He is survived by his brother Bruce; sons Alan, David (Mary), and Charlie (Sandy); his grandchildren Ben (Fei), Theo, Abby, Kestrel (Amanda), and Casey; and great-grandchildren Aria and Mackenzie.
Condolences may be left for the family on Curtis' tribute wall.
