Dale S. Huse, 85, of Rock Island, died Friday, November 4, 2016 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island.  Cremation rites were accorded.  A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made in care of Augustana College, Rock Island, or the QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Dale was born April 20, 1931 in Dalton, Minn., the son of Nobel and Viola Tollofsen Huse.  He was an only child who grew up on a farm and graduated from Fergus Falls High School.  He then graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. and went on to receive his master's degree in English language and literature from the University of Chicago.  Dale also completed further graduate work at the University of Iowa.

Dale married Nancy Lyman on June 9, 1973 in the Ascension Chapel at Augustana College in Rock Island.  He was a U.S. Army veteran.  Dale was an English professor at Augustana College.  He loved teaching the history of film, fiction writing, and modern American literature.

Dale was an avid theater attendee and had a particular interest in the writer Flannery O'Conner.

Dale is survived by his wife, Nancy Huse, Rock Island; several cousins; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews, including Nancy M. Ireland, Rock Island and Alice K. Ireland, Deer Park, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
