IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel R.
Clem-Mckinley
December 16, 1967 – January 19, 2019
Daniel R. Clem-McKinley was born December 16, 1967 in Wabash, Indiana, to Laura Clem Branson. Dan graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1987 and from St. Ambrose University in 2001. Dan worked for many years in healthcare with the mentally disabled and elderly communities. Dan last worked at Friendship Manor where he created and was the first director of Friendship In-Home Services. Dan and his husband, Jeff McKinley, were together since 2001, and were married July 1, 2011, shortly after marriage equality was enacted in Illinois. Dan and Jeff became the first same-sex couple to have a joint foster parent license in Illinois. God blessed Dan and Jeff twice by allowing them to adopt their two sons, Chance and Leland. The "boys" became the absolute joy and focus of Dan's life, which was filled with many projects on their farm and home, several memorable family trips and other family functions. Although Dan had a heart full of love, it was not full of strength, as he lived for many years with cardiomyopathy until succumbing to the disease and its complications January 19, 2019 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.Dan's family thanks the incredible staff at Loyola for the amazing care, kindness and compassion they showed Dan and our family. Dan is survived by his husband and two sons, Orion; sister Wilma Branson King, Harlan, KY; brothers Calvin Branson (Donna), Harlan, KY; Carmon Branson, Wichita, KS; and Walter Branson (Connie), Bloomington, IL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and incredible friends. Dan was preceded in death by his mother; sisters, Juanita Branson Goodin and Linda Branson Hughes; brothers, Dalles Branson, Wallace DeWayne Branson and Nolan Branson; and a very special aunt, Nola Clem. Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00, Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th St, Milan, IL, immediately followed by a celebration of life service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jeff for an education fund for Chance and Leland.
