IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel C.
Warren
June 27, 1948 – March 17, 2025
Daniel Craig Warren, 76, died on March 17th, 2025, in Bettendorf, Iowa. A memorial service and celebration of his life is planned for 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4th, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m.
Dan was born on June 27, 1948, in Wichita, Kansas, to Lloyd P. and Martha Jane Warren, the youngest of four siblings. He graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he met his wife, Jane Quam Warren. Jane was the love of his life, and they remained married for 47 years until Jane's death in 2022. Dan went on to earn a PhD in Communications from the University of Illinois in 1996 and enjoyed a fulfilling second career as a professor at Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska. Returning to Lawrence with Jane after retirement, Dan enjoyed cheering on the Jayhawks, reading (almost always non-fiction), and community volunteering, particularly at Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
Aside from spending time with his wife and two daughters, Emily and Katy, Dan's great passion was trains. Dan spent many hours of his life photographing trains. He never saw a reason to fly when Amtrak could get you to the same destination much more scenically and in four times the amount of time. He was the best kind of father and friend - present, encouraging, self-aware, and quick with a joke. He endeared himself to many with his practical jokes and sense of humor.
Dan will be deeply missed by his daughters, Emily Warren (Andrew Vogel), Baltimore, Maryland, and Katy Warren (Allison Sanyi), Davenport, Iowa, and his two grandchildren, Micah and Mia Jane Sanyi. Dan is also survived by his three siblings and their families, Patricia (Dwight) Oxley, Wichita, Kansas; Susan (Doug) Kranwinkle, Pasadena, California, and Buzz (Janet) Warren, Olathe, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jane Quam Warren.
Memorials may be made in Dan's memory to Douglas County (Kansas) CASA or the Great Plains Transportation Museum of Wichita, Kansas.
