Obituary

Daren B. Hargis passed away on December 19th, 2025 at the age of 65. Daren passed away peacefully at home. He is survived by his daughter, Shakira Hargis and his son, Joshua Hargis.

I want to apologize to those that have been patiently waiting. It still doesn't feel real. My brother and I both feel that it's as if he's gone on vacation right now and will be back any minute now. You wait. You wait. You wait some more. But dad never walks through the door. His truck is in the driveway, but no dad. It feels weird. Everything feels weird. I think that's why I've had such a hard time writing this. And honestly, my dad wouldn't have even cared. He didn't care about stuff like this. He didn't want his kids to be sad. He would always say that once he's gone, he's gone. It's the physical. We can toss his ashes and order pizza and move on with life. You can't stay stuck. You HAVE to keep moving.

The night he passed, I kept feeling like I was in a movie. This wasn't real. I remember standing outside with my older brother and processing what I have to do now. I couldn't think. I was calm. Calm, but not calm at the same time. I was trying to go over everything in my head that dad and I had ever talked about over the years regarding when the time did come and I couldn't think. All I could remember was dad saying to get a pizza. So I went and got Josh and I a pizza. If I couldn't remember anything at the moment, at least I remembered that.

As the days have dragged on, my brother and I (as well as family and friends) have spent many of our days reminiscing on who he was, and will always be.

As a kid, he was a wild child, always on the move. A natural tinkerer, it wasn't long before he was riding motorbikes which eventually led to driving cars. His Mother was said to always save every penny, ensuring there was always food on the table and presents under the tree come Christmas. This stayed with him his entire life as those under his own roof were given the same love.

Daren eventually married childhood friend Cheryl Miller (Hargis) with which together they had two children and enjoyed many great years of fun parenting their kids together.

From youth into his later years, he worked many a jobs, learning much through his long career. He especially took pride in being a member of Local 25. He made many a friends through his lifetime career, and often reminisced about those new and old. Friends still here. Friends long gone. He took pride in his work, often putting in long hours and somehow managing to still spend time with friends. In the year 2020 Daren retired and this was a source of great joy for him. As well as for his yorkshire terrier co-pilot puppy and best friend Chewy.

Finally he had more time to explore two of his favorite passions. Harley Davidson motorcycles and fishing. If he wasn't on wheels, he wanted to be on the water. From childhood into his golden years, these two things never wavered from his mind. Free of schedules and routines, life began anew for him.

In his later years he spent many a time visiting his daughter and watching movies with his son. His favorite film of all time was Waterworld, followed by the likes of Adventures of Pluto Nash, Judge Dredd, the Mad Max films, the Harry Potter saga and many more. Each one itself host to a part of his personality or interests.

He was also an avid lover of classic rock and country. Among his favorite bands and songs were the likes of AC/DC, Vince Gill, Billy Idol, Ram Jam's "Black Betty", Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone" (He especially delighted in the guitar solo and would often crank the volume as he jammed out), and the list goes on.

Daren was also known to many for his innate sense of humor. Never a better poker face around, his "Dad humor" switch was always on, and laughter could always be found wherever he took space.

His warmth, presence, and general know how made him a friend of all who crossed paths with him. If someone needed his help, he always dropped everything to do so and through this led by incredible example. Reliable. Dependable. Hard working. Honorable. All these and more describe his character. A constant role model, friend, and welcome sight, Daren loved without conditions. Not one for fame or notoriety, his satisfaction came from being appreciated and respected by those around him. He was then. He will continue to be. His warmth a great loss to us all here, but surely a great benefit to those also in the beyond. He was an outstanding Father, a wonderful human, and loyal friend. He is loved. He is missed. He is celebrated. He is Daren Hargis.
